Amy Larimer is a dance/theater artist and teacher. It all began when she was cast as a dancer in the dream ballet for her junior high school’s production of Oklahoma. About 10 years later, she moved to New York City, started touring with Nicholas Leichter Dance and began presenting her own choreography at dance and comedy venues throughout the US. 8 years ago she was bitten by the improv bug and created The Raving Jaynes: Improvised Dance Theater, a female duo that combines dance and improv, with her bud Jamie Graham. The Raving Jaynes perform regularly at the PIT in NYC and have been presented in over 35 festivals throughout the US and abroad. In her teaching, Amy combines her knowledge of dance with her knowledge of improv. She is fascinated by the ways the body and imagination work together to create states of flow, how love figures into the artistic process and how embodied practice can help harness the energy of fear and turn it into joy. She is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Dance Program at Lehman College, has published articles on improvisation and pedagogy and is a certified yoga teacher.
