Volunteers

We’d love YOU….to volunteer at IMPRO Amsterdam 2018

One of the (many) extraordinary aspects of IMPRO Amsterdam:
it’s an entirely volunteer-based festival. The core team, their satellites and the actors are all doing it for the love of impro.

But now we’ve come to the point where we need YOU.
Yes, you, another amazing person with a heart full of impro love.

We need people for the following tasks (click them for more info):

Welcome & Goodbye crew
Home stay
Cooking
Provide a kitchen
Chauffeuring
Dish washing
Photographing
Filming
Slideshow
Selling merchandise & provide information
Roadie

Yes, sign me up!

or e-mail volunteers@impro-amsterdam.nl which task you’d like to help us with

You’d like to do something, but….

you don’t yet know if the last week of January is going to work for you, or it doesn’t really matter to you which task we give you, as long as you’re in?
Fill out the form anyway, and we’ll keep you posted on when, where and how we need people!

What’s next?
When we have sufficient applications, we will make the week schedule and communicate that to you. We will also send you a more detailed description of your task, if necessary.
On the day you’re volunteering, you’re welcome to join the rest of the cast and crew for dinner (17.30 h) and we provide you with a free ticket to the main show.*
If there is no show on the day your volunteer, you get a ticket to one of the main shows (at this point, we don’t yet know which one it’ll be).

*This does not apply to homestay providers, these special people get to go to the invite-only show on Sunday 🙂

Any questions? We’ll hurry to answer them at volunteers@impro-amsterdam.nl

Welcome & Goodbye crew

Yours is the very first or very last face of the festival the actors will get to see!
You pick them up at Schiphol airport or Amsterdam Central Station and take them to their home stay address, or at the end of the week, you pick them up from their home stay and take them to their train or plane. With all their baggage of course, so some cars in this pool are very handy.
How much time does it take:
A few hours on arrival/departure days (when we know the flight times, you know)
How many needed:
At least 4 per arrival/departure date, but it’s much more fun to be with more people!

Home stay

We are very honoured to receive our foreign guests and like to provide them with a comfortable place to stay. So if you have a spare room or bed and would like to host 1, 2 or maybe even more guests, we would love to hear about it. You get a small fee to cover breakfast expenses (dinner is at the theatre) and are welcome at the Sneak Preview on Sunday 21.
How much time does it take:
The actors arrive on or before Saturday January 20 and leave on or after Sunday January 28 (you will get exact dates as soon as we know the flight times). You can pick them up/drop them off yourself if you like, but we can also put people from the Welcome & Goodbye crew on that.
There’s no need to entertain them all the time; there’s an action packed program most of the week (which you can regurlarly join), so if you’re working during the week and have a spare key for them, that’s fine as well! Spend as much or as little time with your guest(s) as you please.

Cooking

Good actors and hard workers need good food. From Saturday 20 to Saturday 27, dinner is prepared for the cast and crew of the day; a big, noisy, happy crowd of 35-45 people, that will applaud you numerous times for your endeavours!
How much time will it take:
The cooking is done at home (yours or if your kitchen is too small, someone else’s); we’ll provide you with a chauffeur to take you and the food to the theatre.
Dinner is served at 17.30 u, so you will need most of the afternoon for grocery shopping and cooking. You do not need to wash the dishes and will be ready for that evening’s show with time to spare.
How many needed:
Cooking is done with 2 people (3 for the 3-course dinner on Saturday 20), so if you’re part of an all-star team, please sign up together!
Experience necessary:
It’s very handy to have some experience in cooking for a large group, but please do apply if you don’t but are just wildly enthusiastic about the idea; we’ll try to team you up with a more experienced person.

Provide a kitchen

We do not have a kitchen available this year and not all people who’d like to cook, will have a large enough kitchen to be able to cook in their own home. Do you live within the A10 ring, is your kitchen large enough to cook a big dinner and you’d like to lend it out for a night? Great!
How much time will it take:
None; you do not have to be home during the cooking, but please make sure the cooks can enter and leave.

Chauffeuring

Cooking is done at home this year and the cooks and their food need to be brought to the Compagnietheater. We will give you a Car2GO account so you can take a Car2GO. So now all we need are some chauffeurs!
How much time will it take:
The food has to be at the Compagnietheater at 17.30 u; how long it takes to drive there depends on the address of the kitchen, of course. Usually the drive is no more than 15 minutes.
How many needed:
1 per day

Dish washing

Even though we have an dish washer available, we still need people to fill it and clear it out…And man, do we love those people. You think the cooks get all the credit? Wait till you hear the dish washers’ applause…
How much time does it take:
From 17.30 u (start of dinner) til 19.45 u at the latest; we will make sure you’re ready on time for the start of the show.
How many needed:
2 per night. If you’ve ever wanted to do real dishes with that special someone instead of all this impro pretend stuff….this is your moment.

Photographing

For most of the cast, crew and theater visitors, going through all the beautiful pictures that were taken during the festival is their favorite way of bringing back memories; you can be sure to see your pictures turn up in the daily foyer presentation, on all possible social media, as well as on the festival website!
How much time does it take:
You can start at dinner (17.30 h), or at the latest at the start of the show at 20.00 h. We will need you to upload your photo’s the same night or early the next morning.
How many needed:
1 per night
Experience necessary:
Yes, you are an experienced (theater) photographer with a good camera at your disposal.
Photographers will be selected by Joël Bosch, the photo/video satellite.

Filming

Because impro is an in-the-moment thing we will not register entire shows, but some filming is done for the promotional video and feedback for the cast. Filming is done from a seat on the first row of the audience (so no walking around the actors for the perfect headshot, sorry…).
How much time does it take:
You can start at 17.30 h (start of dinner) or 20.00 h (start of the show).
How many needed:
1 per night
Experience necessary:
Yes, some filming experience is asked; it would be great if you have a camera, although one can be borrowed if necessary. Filming crew will be selected by Joël Bosch, the photo/video satellite.

Slideshow

A daily slideshow is projected in the foyer of the Compagnietheater. It includes pictures, videos, daily/weekly program, special deals, etc: anything that would interest and/or entertain our guests during the time they spend in the foyer. So if you’re a good presenter even without the spoken word: this is your gig!
How much time does it take:
A few hours to set it up and a little time every day to update it
How many needed:
2-3 for the entire week
Experience necessary:
Yes, some experience with creating slideshows is required. Slideshow crew will be selected by Joël Bosch, the photo/video satellite.

Selling merchandise & provide information (sold out!)

We have a beautiful merchandise/info stand in the Compagnietheater. This is where you sell our awesome t-shirts, friend-of-the-festival packages, left-over tickets etc., and provide our visitors with all the info they need to have an enjoyable evening.
So if you’re already an accomplished sales-person, or are aching to become one, this is the spot for you!
How much time does it take:
You’re in the stand from 19.15 h until the start of the show, in the break and after the show for as long as there are customers in sight 😉
How many needed:
2 people per night

Roadie

Before, during and after the main show, the set dressing often needs to be changed and we could use some extra help with that! The ultimate way to get yourself back-stage.
How much time does it take:
From 19.30 h until the start of the late night show
How many needed:
1 per night
