The School of Night
The School Of Night is a company from London England, that specialises in “Hard Bardics” – the improvisation of impossible feats of poetic and dramatic scenes, monologues, songs and stunts. They use techniques from throughout history, and we pay homage to the Ancient Greeks, the Welsh Bards, The players at Shakespeare’s Globe, The Commedia troupes of Northern Europe, and the Beat Poets of the 1950′s – just to name a few.

They will improvise in any poetic metre, in any style, channeling the spirits of the dead throughout history. This special two-man show was last seen at the Edmonton Improvaganza in June 2010. The School Of Night have taken to the stages of the Royal Court, National Theatre London, seasons at the Edinburgh Festival, Elsinore Castle Denmark, Second City Toronto, Andret Theatre Oslo, and hundreds of club and festival gigs. They have improvised sonnets to Oscar Winners, Nobel Winners, and Playboy models.

“I met Keith Johnstone in a hotel bar in London. I was keen on chatting to him, so I told him what we got up to in The School Of Night. He scowled at me, walked off and refused to speak to me. At that moment I knew that we were HERETICS.” Sean McCann. Word Serpent, Impro Heretic and Bard.

This team was highly recommended to us by our Canadian friends National Theatre of the World from Toronto, who performed so succesfully at our previous festival edition.

The review of The School of Night’s performance at Edinburgh Fringe festival said: “Original, ingenious and a hell of a laugh. Lie, cheat and steal for a ticket, because this is the secret gem of the festival.”
